The entire senior class traveled to LynHaven, in Robert, LA for a good ole summer picnic. Members of the class of 2009 took advantage of the summer day by playing volleyball, football, ultimate frisbee, ping pong, fishing, paddle boating, and swimming. THE GREAT READ: Brother Martin Community of Readers 2008
This summer, to build a sense of family and a love of reading, Brother Martin introduces its first community-wide reading program. Ghost Soldiers, a non-fiction account of the allied rescue of American prisoners of war in the Philippines during WWII, will be the book assigned to all students, grades 8th through 12th. In addition, we are inviting all faculty members, parents, and alumni to participate in this “community of readers.” Students will be offered activities and projects in classes in the fall that will reward student summer reading. In addition, the book’s author, Hampton Sides, will speak at a school wide assembly for all students and interested parents and alumni in September. We are planning to include a cooperative effort with the National World War II Museum. Check back for more information on this event. Books will be available for sale at a discounted price at the May Parents Club meeting and in the school lobby during final exam week.
(Students who are enrolled in honors and AP courses must read the required book(s) on the attached list.) |
