Dr, Albert Sam
  • Governor Bobby Jindal appointed Dr. Albert Sam ('85) to the Louisiana Board of Regents. Dr. Sam is the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Baton Rouge General Hospital. The Board of Regents is a 16-member state agency that coordinates all state public higher education.
  • St. Stanislaus College in Bay St. Louis MS inducted James Thriffiley II (SA '62) into its Hall of Fame. Jim began teaching and coaching at SSC in 1966. In 1969, he earned a Masters Degree in Guidance and Physics at Loyola where his mentors included two Brothers of the Sacred Heart, Brother Clement Cosgrove and Brother Gordian Udinsky ('36). Jim became Director of Guidance at Stanislaus and moderated the Math and Science Team for 30 years until his retirement in 2005.

    Did You Know?

    Did you ever wonder who invented the Mardi Gras throw cups? The answer is Corrado Giacona II (SA '60).

    The Krewe of Alla began tossing Corrado's creation in 1980, and, within three years, all the parades featured them. One of his prized possessions is the Icee cup commissioned for the papal visit in 1987.
